Suggested Baseline Categories

• PDF/Document tools: Adobe Acrobat Reader.
• Browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox (alongside whatever your organisation’s default browser is).
• CAD/Model viewers: Autodesk Design Review, Autodesk DWG TrueView.
• Communication: whatever your organisation’s chosen platform is (Teams, Slack, etc.) plus any legacy tools still required for specific teams.
• General utilities: the .NET Framework runtime, 7-Zip, Notepad++, Paint.NET, VLC Media Player, CutePDF, FileZilla, Greenshot.

Items Worth Retiring From Older Catalog Lists

If you’re reviewing a catalog built a few years ago, check for these end-of-life items and remove or replace them: Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave Player (both fully discontinued and blocked by Adobe since December 2020 and January 2019 respectively), and standalone Java Client entries without a clear business justification, since unmanaged Java runtimes are a common vulnerability source if left auto-updating outside SCCM’s control.

Keep install sources pointed at each vendor’s official download page rather than a mirrored copy where possible, so your catalog always reflects the current, patched release.
