Adding a Newsletter Subscription Box to a WordPress Post or Page
If you’re running Jetpack on your WordPress site and want to add a simple email subscription box — like the one on this site — you don’t need a separate plugin or any custom code. Jetpack’s built-in subscription feature ships with a shortcode you can drop straight into any post or page. Create (or edit) a post or page, switch your block editor to the Code editor view (the three-dot menu in the top right, then “Code editor” — or the Text tab if you’re using the Classic Editor), and add the following on its own line wherever you want the subscription box to appear:
Save and switch back to the visual editor to see the rendered subscription form. Don’t click back into the visual editor before saving if you’re still mid-edit — switching views can occasionally strip an unsaved shortcode, so save your changes first, then flip views to check it rendered correctly.
This requires the Jetpack plugin’s Subscriptions module to be active on your site; if the shortcode just prints as plain text instead of rendering a form, check that module is switched on under Jetpack’s settings.
A Note on This Method in 2026
Jetpack now promotes a block-based “Subscribe” block (added via the Gutenberg block editor, rather than pasted HTML/shortcode) as its primary way to add an email subscription form, and that’s the method worth reaching for on a new post today. The raw HTML approach described above isn’t formally deprecated, but Jetpack’s older shortcode-and-widget subscription markup has seen reports of intermittent breakage over time as the plugin has evolved, so if you paste the exact block above into a current site and it doesn’t render or submit correctly, don’t assume you did something wrong — try the built-in Subscribe block from the editor’s block inserter instead, which is actively maintained.Resources
