Adding an Emoji to an Outlook Email
Sometimes plain text just doesn’t quite land the way an emoji does — and getting one into an Outlook email is much simpler than most people expect, with no add-ins or extra software required.
The quickest way, if you’re on Windows 10 or 11, is the built-in emoji picker: with your cursor in the body of the email, press Windows key + . (period) or Windows key + ; (semicolon) to bring up the emoji panel, then click the emoji you want to insert it directly at the cursor.
If you’re on an older version of Windows without that shortcut, or you’d rather browse a fuller character set, Outlook’s own Insert > Symbols > Symbol menu also gives you access to a wide range of Unicode symbols and characters, including many emoji, through the standard Windows character map dialog.
One thing worth knowing: not every emoji renders identically across every email client and device — Outlook, Gmail, and mobile mail apps each use their own emoji artwork, so the emoji you see while composing may look slightly different to the recipient depending on what they’re reading it in.
