EMC (now Dell EMC) RecoverPoint appliances ship with a locked BIOS, which normally isn’t something you ever need to touch — but occasionally you’ll need to get into it to check hardware settings, troubleshoot a boot issue, or adjust something at firmware level. Dell EMC doesn’t publish a single default BIOS password that applies across every RecoverPoint appliance generation, and the credential can differ between hardware revisions and firmware releases. Worth knowing if you’re still running physical RecoverPoint appliance hardware: Dell has published an end-of-service-life date of 31 January 2027 for the current (Gen6) RecoverPoint appliance hardware line, with earlier generations (Gen1 through Gen5) already well past their own EOSL dates. If your appliance is approaching that window, it’s worth raising a support-contract renewal conversation with Dell sooner rather than later, since parts and hardware support typically taper off around EOSL. That said, RecoverPoint as a product family isn’t going away — RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines, the hypervisor-level, appliance-free variant for VMware environments, remains an actively developed and currently supported Dell product, with new releases and security advisories still shipping in 2026. If you’re planning a refresh away from ageing physical RecoverPoint hardware, RecoverPoint for VMs is Dell’s own current direction for the same continuous-data-protection use case, rather than a full replacement product with a different name.
