Microsoft Security Essentials – Updating older Operating Systems

If you are using Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) on an older operating system, you may have noticed that you are not receiving all the latest definition updates. This seems to be a particular problem with businesses having to continue using older versions of Windows Server as from 2003 and below then definitions will not automatically update. But there is a solution to this albeit a bit long winded but at least it can provide you with some sort of protection. Microsoft provide all MSE definition updates in a large installable program. This means that you can download the latest definition pack and install it on your older operating system bringing it up to date. This is great, however you are still only as up to date as the last time you manually ran the update package. But something is better than nothing at all.
