Get WMI Query

We are pleased to announce the release of Get WMI Query v1.6.

This is an update from our previous 1.4 version and we have now slightly redesigned the program to fit in with our new program templates, but we have also re-coded the programs back end to make it slicker (and easier to update in the future!).

Update Notes

  • New layout and design
  • Fixed bug with extra line being added to the WMI query output
  • Menu bar added
  • Status bar added
  • Donate added to menu bar
  • BIOS Version option added
  • Domain option added
  • Hard Drive Size option added
  • RAM option added
  • System Type (x86 or x64) option added
  • x64 & x86 Compatibility Added

This program is designed to help in a SCCM environment where there is a need to provide a multiple set of drivers to a task sequence during an operating system deployment. This may also assist in the same process for those using WDS. Using this new update, you can also use the WMI queries that are outputted for all steps in your task sequence like Windows Updates or software installations.

This program can be run on a machine where you require to retrieve the exact details from the WMI. It will then give you the information as selected from the drop down list and also the WMI Query that you would need to add to your SCCM or WDS task sequence.

As an example, below is a step in my task sequence for drivers for a HP Probook 6460b and the WMI query that I use as an option on this step to enable this step to run only on a HP Probook 6460b.

Once you have made your selection, the program will go and gather the information from the machines WMI and return the data into the Returned Value box and it will then also present you with the correct WMI query that you can use for your task sequence steps:

All you have to do is copy and copy the WMI Query into your task sequence step.

Future Releases

We are working on enhancing this program by adding a remote function. The plan is that you will be able to enter a computer name and gather the WMI information from any machine on your network.

We’ll also be adding more WMI options to the drop down – if you would like to suggest any to add, please let us know and we’ll add it to the next release.
