This policy covers the TextGeek browser extension, made by TechyGeeksHome.
What TextGeek collects
Nothing. TextGeek does not collect, store, sell or share any personal information. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.
How it works
- It only looks at a tab when you click its button, press its shortcut or use its right-click menu on that page.
- It takes a screenshot of the visible tab, or reads the picture you right-clicked, and reads the text in it with the OCR engine built into the extension, on your own computer.
- The text is shown in a small panel and copied to your clipboard. The screenshot is thrown away straight after.
- The OCR engine and the English language data are part of the extension, so pictures and text are never uploaded, and TextGeek makes no network requests of its own.
- Nothing is sent to TechyGeeksHome or to any other third party.
What is stored on your computer
TextGeek keeps its two settings (keep line breaks, copy straight away) in your browser’s extension storage. It does not keep the pictures or the text it reads. Removing the extension deletes the settings.
Permissions
- activeTab: lets TextGeek see the tab you are on, only when you click its button, press its shortcut or use its right-click menu.
- scripting: adds the selection box and the small text panel to that tab when you ask.
- contextMenus: adds Copy text from image and Copy text from part of the page to the right-click menu.
- clipboardWrite: puts the text it reads on your clipboard.
- storage: remembers your two settings.
- offscreen (Chrome and Edge only): opens a hidden extension page where the built-in OCR engine reads the text.
