LingoGeek Privacy

This page explains how LingoGeek handles your documents and every other piece of data it touches. It applies to LingoGeek 1.0.0 and later. Last updated 29 September 2026.

The short version

Your documents

What LingoGeek keeps on your computer

Everything LingoGeek stores lives in one folder, %LOCALAPPDATA%\TechyGeeksHome\LingoGeek:

LingoGeek’s interface is a small local page served on 127.0.0.1, which only your own computer can reach, shown in a window provided by Microsoft Edge WebView2, a part of Windows. LingoGeek sends nothing through WebView2 beyond that local page; WebView2 itself follows your Windows diagnostic data settings.

What is sent over the network

LingoGeek makes two kinds of request, and only these two:

Both requests are plain downloads. The server receives your IP address and a user agent of the form LingoGeek/1.0 (+https://techygeekshome.info/lingogeek/), the same as if you downloaded the file in a browser, and from the pack’s URL it can tell which language pair was fetched. No document text, file names, account details or usage data are sent.

LingoGeek does not check for updates, and it has no telemetry, analytics, advertising or crash reporting. Once the packs you need are installed, you can use it with the network disconnected.

Deleting your data

Third parties

LingoGeek uses no data processors. The only outside services it contacts are GitHub and argos-net.com, and only to download the public files described above. LingoGeek is open source under GPL-3.0, so every statement on this page can be checked against the source code.

Changes and contact

If a future version changes how LingoGeek handles data, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change. Questions about this policy can be raised on GitHub Issues. Back to LingoGeek.
