Posts, users and subreddits
Open a single post, someone’s profile or a whole subreddit (hot, new, top or rising) on new or old Reddit.
Original pictures
Reddit Saver fetches the original upload, not the resized preview Reddit shows in the feed.
Whole galleries
Every picture in a gallery post comes down, in order, with its caption in the optional CSV.
Videos with their sound
Reddit keeps video and sound in separate files. Reddit Saver downloads both at the best quality and joins them into one normal MP4.
Crossposts and repeats removed
The same picture posted twice, or crossposted to another subreddit, is spotted and only kept once.
You choose what goes in
A preview grid shows everything first. Switch between images and videos and untick anything you don’t want.
Save one video
Every video has its own Save button, for when you only want that one.
One tidy ZIP
Named after the subreddit or user and the date, with the poster and date in every file name.
Your own Reddit
It reads Reddit as you see it, using your normal sign-in. Nothing goes through a website in the middle.
How to install it
About a minute, and you only do it once. Store listings for Edge and Firefox are on the way.
Download and unzip
Download the ZIP and unzip it somewhere you will keep it, such as Documents. The browser runs the extension from that folder, so leave it there.
Open your extensions page
Type chrome://extensions in the address bar. In Edge use edge://extensions, in Brave brave://extensions.
Switch on Developer mode
The switch is top right in Chrome and Brave, and bottom left in Edge. It just lets you add an extension from a folder.
Load unpacked
Click Load unpacked and pick the reddit-saver folder. Then pin the Reddit Saver icon from the puzzle piece menu.
On Firefox, download the Firefox version, open about:debugging, choose This Firefox, then Load Temporary Add-on and pick the ZIP. Firefox removes temporary add-ons when it closes, so the Firefox Add-ons listing will be the easier option once it is approved.

None needed. If you are signed in to Reddit, it sees what you see, including subreddits you have joined.

It reads the Reddit page you click it on and downloads from Reddit’s own picture and video servers. Nothing else.

Is Reddit Saver really free?
Yes. There is no Pro version, no ads, no limit on how much you save and nothing to sign up for. It is open source under the GPL-3.0, so you can read every line of it on GitHub.
Does Reddit Saver collect any of my data?
No. Everything happens inside your own browser. Reddit Saver reads the Reddit page you click it on and downloads the files straight from Reddit’s own servers. There is no account, no analytics and nothing is sent anywhere else.
Why do Reddit videos usually have no sound when saved?
Reddit stores the picture and the sound of a video as two separate files. Saving the video on its own gets you a silent clip. Reddit Saver downloads both at the best quality and joins them into one normal MP4 file.
Does it save whole subreddits?
Yes. Open the subreddit, pick hot, new, top or rising, and click the icon. You can choose how many posts it reads. Reddit itself stops listings at around 1,000 posts.
Does it work with galleries and crossposts?
Yes. Every picture in a gallery is saved in order. Crossposts are traced back to the original post, and repeats are removed so you only get each picture once.
Will it download Imgur, YouTube or Redgifs links?
No. It saves pictures and videos hosted on Reddit itself. For pictures linked from other sites it can save Reddit’s own full-size copy, and you can switch that off.
Does it work on Firefox?
Yes. Download the Firefox version from this page. A Firefox Add-ons listing is in review and will make installing it permanent.
Can I use the pictures and videos however I like?
They still belong to the people who posted them. Reddit Saver is ideal for your own posts, or content you have permission to use, but you need the owner’s permission before reposting anyone else’s work.
