Zune is the software that is required to use with your Windows Phone – it is iTunes to Apples iPhone if you like…

A lot of businesses these days are now using Windows Phone as a slightly cheaper alternative to Apple iPhone and a more professional feel than anything with Android on it.

Due to this, a lot of business users will want to have Zune installed on their machine – especially for users of the 7.8 version of Windows Phone which does not support direct access via USB to get your photos off the handset.

So, if you are using Configuration Manager 2012 you can add Zune into your Software Catalog and allow your users to install it from there. But, it does not come in a MSI format so how do you do it?

Firstly, you need to download the latest Zune software executable which you can get from below:

INSTRUCTIONS

Once you have the Zune installer, you should put it into your source location ready for it to be added into your Software Catalog. You then need to go into the Configuration Manager console and browse to Software Library > Applications.

Zune - Add to your Configuration Manager 2012 Software Catalog 1

You should then right click on Applications and select Create Application. This will bring up a dialog box and you should select the “Manually specify the application information” and click the next button:

Zune - Add to your Configuration Manager 2012 Software Catalog 2

You will then need to specify the information about the product and click the next button once you are happy with what you have entered:

Zune - Add to your Configuration Manager 2012 Software Catalog 3

You can then enter all the information that you will display to your end users in the Software Catalog, again, once you are happy with what you have entered, click the next button:

Zune - Add to your Configuration Manager 2012 Software Catalog 4

You then need to add the deployment type and you will also need to enter the detection details.

For this, you need to use the following installation command:

 ZuneSetupPkg.exe /qb! /accepteula

This should mean that your “Programs” tab within your Deployment Type tab of your program should look like this:

Zune - Add to your Configuration Manager 2012 Software Catalog 5

For the Detection Method, you can use the settings as per the image below – this will check to see if you have Zune installed or not on your machine – if you do, it will detect the installation folder and not install:

Zune - Add to your Configuration Manager 2012 Software Catalog 6

You can then complete any other custom settings depending on your own environment in the Application, then distribute and deploy where it is required.
