If you have a Shoretel telephony environment, you may want to change the ringtone of your handset(s). You can do this with the boring built-in ones or customise your handset with any tune you like.

To do this, there are two methods, one for customising just one phone and another for customising all models of handsets in your business.

This guide will show you how to customise all models of handsets ringtone, see my other blogs for how to customise single handsets.

First of all, logon to your Shoretel HQ server as an administrator.

Then go to the following location:

%systemdrive%\inetpub\ftproot

Create a new folder called “ringers” in the root of the ftproot folder.

Copy your custom WAV files to your newly created “ringers” folder on your HQ server.

NOTE: Your custom WAV files have to be in the correct Shoretel format, to see how to convert your files into the correct format, click the link below:

Then, create a txt file in the root of the ftproot folder called xxxxcustom.txt (with xxxx being the model of handset that you wish to edit the ringtone on), below is a list of model codes:

  • 10 110 S0 = S0custom.txt
  • 210 210 S1 = s1custom.txt
  • 210A 210 S1A = s1custom.txt
  • 530 530 S2 = s2custom.txt
  • 560 560 S6 = s6custom.txt
  • 212k 212k S12 = S12custom.txt
  • 230 230 230 = sevcustom.txt
  • 560G 560G S6G = s6gcustom.txt

Open the text file and paste the following code into it:

  • WaveRinger1 L/r12 xx.x.x.xx/ringers/yyyyy.wav
  • WaveRinger2 L/r13 xx.x.x.xx/ringers/yyyyy.wav

(xx.x.x.xx = the IP address of your Shoretel HQ server)

(yyyyy.wav = the name of custom ringtone wav file that you copied to the ringers folder earlier)

Save this file and logoff from your Shoretel HQ server.

You then need to reboot the phone that you are trying to change the ringtone on. Reboot the phone by either unplugging or pressing the Mute button then RESET# (73728#).

This can take up to 5 minutes to complete as it will copy the custom WAV file from your Shoretel HQ server to your handset.

Once this has completed, login to your Shoretel Director, go to the user that has this phone associated it their account and change the ring tone under “Personal Options” to “Ring 3”.

Save this change and then you should find that you now have a new ringtone.
