Adding VKontakte (VK.com) to Your Jetpack Sharing Buttons

If your WordPress site uses Jetpack’s sharing buttons and you want to add VKontakte (VK.com) — popular with audiences in Russia and other Russian-speaking countries — alongside the standard set Jetpack ships with, you can add it as a custom sharing service without needing a separate plugin. In your WordPress admin, go to Settings > Sharing, scroll down to the Sharing Buttons section, and click Add a new service. A small form will pop up asking for the details of the custom service:

• Service name: VKontakte (or VK)
• Sharing URL: a VK.com share URL pattern that includes placeholders for the post URL and title, following the format VK’s own share link documentation specifies
• Icon: upload or link to a VK icon so the button matches the visual style of your other sharing icons

Once saved, the new VK sharing button will appear alongside your existing Jetpack sharing icons, and you can drag it into position under the main Sharing Buttons settings to control where it sits relative to the others.

Has This Changed? (Updated for 2026)

Worth flagging before you go looking for this: Jetpack’s current sharing documentation no longer describes an “Add a new service” custom-URL form at all. The Sharing Buttons feature today is presented as a fixed, predefined list — Bluesky, Email, Facebook, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Nextdoor, Pinterest, Print, Reddit, Telegram, Threads, Tumblr, WhatsApp, and X (Twitter) — configured either through the block editor’s Sharing Buttons block or via Jetpack > Settings > Sharing, with no VKontakte option and no visible path to add an arbitrary custom service the way the steps above describe. Jetpack has also since split off Jetpack Social as a separate feature/plugin, but that covers auto-posting to other platforms rather than on-page share buttons, and doesn’t offer a custom-service option either. If you’re setting this up fresh today, the steps above may simply no longer be available in your Jetpack version — worth checking your Settings > Sharing screen directly, or considering a dedicated social-sharing plugin if a VK button is still a hard requirement for your audience.
