Printed circuit boards are used all over the STEM industry as the basis of many different products. The people that design these printed circuit boards are very skilled and often use advanced software to create the perfect product. Here, we are going to discuss some of the things that you might not already know about PCB designers. Keep reading if you’d like to find out more.

Engineers Are Not Writers

PCB designers and engineers alike prefer to just get stuck into a project and don’t enjoy spending a lot of time writing out specifications. This is why when you hire a PCB designer, you should think again if you want to give them a big written report to write instead of letting them get straight to work. When learning their craft, these designers aren’t given a lot of papers to write, they are taught to be like this so don’t try to use them in a different way.

They Use The Best Software

PCB designers have a lot of skills but a lot of the work that they do is aided by some impressive printed circuit board software. This software comes with many different features that allow them to look at their designs in both 3D and 2D. There’s so many different software options available, for example for PCB Via creation and much more. As the technology improves over the years, so do the skills of the PCB designer and this is interesting to watch.

Multiple Engineers Are Not Always Better Than One

When a PCB designer is finally qualified, they are still a long way away from the PCB designers that have been in the industry for many years. Many companies find that when they let go of an experienced employee, they can replace them with a few more graduates, but this is not always a success. It will take a long time for fresh graduates to gain the skills and experience that they need to succeed in this industry so make sure to consider this.

The Don’t Know Much About Business

There’s a reason that many tech companies and PCB designers have a strong marketing and business team attached to them. The reason for this is that many PCB designers don’t come with a lot of business knowledge, they know how to make a pretty good product and test it extensively, but they aren’t quite sure how to market it. This is of course not true for everyone as you might find some engineers that have an extensive knowledge on how to do it all themselves.

Final Verdict

People make their assumptions about PCB designers, but it is interesting to look at some of the things that you don’t actually know about them. When dealing with a PCB designer, make sure to consider all of the things that we have discussed in this article and remember that they are there to create a great product, not to write extensive reports and indulge in the marketing process.
