Setting Up Weather Alerts on Your Apple iPhone

The Weather app on iPhone can alert you to severe weather and daily conditions for any location you care about — useful if you’re tracking weather somewhere other than just your current location, like a second home, a family member’s area, or an upcoming travel destination.

Step 1: Open the Weather app

Find it on your home screen (sun icon), or swipe down and use Spotlight Search, typing “Weather” if you can’t locate it.

Step 2: Add the locations you want alerts for

Tap the + icon (or the list/menu icon, depending on iOS version) to add any location you want to track — you’re not limited to your current one.

Step 3: Turn on notifications for that location

Tap into the location you just added, and enable notifications for it. This is what turns on alerts specifically for that place, rather than just showing you the forecast when you open the app.

Step 4: Choose which alerts you get

Within the location’s notification settings, you can pick which categories of alert to receive — severe weather warnings, next-day forecast summaries, precipitation notifications, and similar, depending on what’s available for that region.

Step 5: Fine-tune how alerts behave

Under the Weather app’s own settings (or via Settings > Notifications > Weather on newer iOS versions), you can adjust notification style (banners vs alerts), sounds, and whether alerts show on the lock screen.

Once set up, you’ll get notified automatically as severe weather develops for any of your tracked locations — handy for planning ahead without having to remember to check the app manually.
