Mimecast have now released version 5.2.1020.11990 of their Outlook Client.
This version of the MSO client now supports the following:
- Large File Sent
- Large File Receive
- Microsoft Outlook 2013
- Other Microsoft Office 2013 Products (like Project and Visio 2013 no longer conflict with it)
- Windows 8.1/8/7
- Mimecast Client Exchange Folder Replication
There seems to be a slight redesign of the Mimecast tab but nothing too substantial and as always, some of the new features will only be available to you if you have them as part of your subscription package with Mimecast.
The single most frustrating thing with the new release though is that you have to uninstall version 3 or 4 before you can install version 5. Well if you have 5000+ installations like some of our customers, that is an almost impossible job – especially more so that you have to have Outlook closed to do this entire process. This latest installer will upgrade version 5 clients though.
We have been working on ways of making this easier and the best way we can find so far is that if you are using SCCM, you can use the supersedence method to uninstall the version 3 or 4 of the client and then install this latest client. For the Outlook issue, if you use the correct MSI switches, if Outlook is open it will tell the user to close it to be able to continue the installation. The recommended MSI command you should use in SCCM is this:
msiexec.exe /i "MSOInstall.msi" /qb /norestart
What this will do is to firstly run the installer, then the /qb will show a basic user interface without user interaction, but will stop and show the error if, for example, Outlook is still open. The /norestart is fairly simple – this will ensure that your client machine does not automatically restart itself.
