So we have finally gotten around to upgrading our old Windows Mobile 8 Nokia Lumia smart phone to Windows Mobile 10.

We were so bored of waiting for Microsoft to release this update to the older range of Lumia smart phones that we completely forgot about the release!

But we stumbled across an article about the release over the weekend so decided to give it a go. Although the process is very simple, it did take a rather long time to download and install and then required a number of reboots to fully complete. We also then found that we had to re-enter a lot of details like email account details, Twitter, Facebook etc also needed to be re-entered. But, all our data is still there including photos and music so can’t complain about the process too much.

Windows Mobile 10 is pretty good and the user interface is very pleasing to the eye. Although we here at TechyGeeksHome think that Windows 10 is a great operating system anyway so the mobile version was probably always something we were going to like. Its slick and does not seem to have any lag even on our 3 year old Lumia handset.

There are some fancy new features – mostly stuff we will never use like the health apps, but Twitter, Facebook and Messenger apps have all had a facelift too.

Overall we are pretty impressed with Windows Mobile 10 and would recommend anyone that is able to run the upgrade to do so, just make sure you have plenty time, plenty of battery life and plenty of patience to setup some account settings after.

How to get the upgrade…

If you are using a Windows Mobile 8 phone at the moment and want to know if you can upgrade to Windows Mobile 10, then first of all you should check if you have one of these compatible handsets:

  • Lumia 1520
  • Lumia 930
  • Lumia 830
  • Lumia 735
  • Lumia 640 XL
  • Lumia 640
  • Lumia 635
  • Lumia 535
  • Lumia 435

If you do, then you need to install the Windows 10 Advisor App and then check for updates through that app. This will tell you whether you can now proceed and run the updates on your handset. Continue if you can and then just wait for the process to complete.
