Force Windows 10 Update

If you want to force a Windows 10 update, you can do so by following the simple instructions as per below:

First of all, you should stop the Windows Update service, you can do this by clicking Start and in the search box type in:

net stop wuauserv

When the service has stopped, you should delete all files and folders in this location:

C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload

After this, you need to restart the Windows Update service, to do this, run the following command:

net start wuauserv

Then you need to run a forced update from an elevated command prompt. To do this, you can click on Start and then in the search box type in cmd. This will bring up the command prompt in the search results, right click on this and click “Run as administrator”.

This will then bring up the elevated command prompt and you should then type in the following command:

wuauclt.exe /updatenow

Once you have done this, you should go back into Windows Update and click “Check for Updates” this will rerun and should then force the Windows 10 update.
