Cloud gaming certainly has the ability to change the way we game in the future, with many already enjoying a number of exceptional advantages that can be experienced when the technology is being utilized.

Indeed, we have already been able to experience it in a number of different ways, with a range of different games already adopting the technology. For instance, we already know that there are gaming platforms available that work over the internet, including Steam, Epic Games, and Google Stadia, whilst we also know that we can enjoy the best gaming experiences that are available when we use the casinos online Canada such as Maple Casino, as we can now pick up from where we left off and use any device that we wish to play with.

Therefore, it is rather clear to see that cloud gaming is the future, right?

Well, that may be the opinion of some people, but there are others who believe that cloud gaming is not the future and actually cite that there are a number of different limitations and drawbacks to the technology currently.

Naturally, there are pros and cons to both sides of the argument, so it really comes down to personal preference. Nonetheless, we have taken a look at the positives and the negatives of the technology that is becoming widely available and will explain why each of them is considered to be so.

What are the benefits/positives of cloud gaming?

On one hand, cloud gaming does have a lot of benefits.

It is convenient because you can play your games anywhere you have an internet connection. You do not have to worry about storage space or hardware requirements, and you can access your games from any device.

Naturally, this is a huge benefit for gamers who are perhaps continually on the move and do not always have access to the same device that they wish to continue to use. For example, those who travel can enjoy playing the same game or save that they may have on a portable and compatible device whilst being away from their main gadget. Additionally, this can be a huge benefit for those who may start a game or save in one location whilst away and then allow them to access it when they are back on their main platform.

Moreover, the fact that players no longer have to download huge files and store them on hardware that has a limited capacity means they are able to enjoy the benefits of utilizing the space for something different, whilst also being given the opportunity to have more games accessible to play!

Cloud gaming also has the potential to make gaming more social. You can play with friends online without having to be in the same room. This could also help reduce cheating since it would be harder for players to exploit game mechanics when they can’t see the other players.

What are the disadvantages/drawbacks of cloud gaming?

As we mentioned, there are some drawbacks to cloud gaming that many gamers will have already cited as one of the reasons why this technology is not the future of the industry.

One of the disadvantages and limitations that have been mentioned is in regard to your internet connection, as this needs to be of good quality in order to avoid lag. If your connection is slow or drops out often, you are going to have a lot of trouble playing games online.

Naturally, this can have a negative impact on the entire gaming experience as players who wish to compete online with friends or other gamers around the world in online tournaments will find that it becomes incredibly difficult to have an effective and positive session.

Another issue is that cloud gaming can be expensive. Depending on the service you use, you may end up paying more for games than you would if you just bought them outright. Moreover, if the service goes out of business, you could lose all your games and data, thus potentially costing you even more money in the future as players may wish to replace the titles with physical copies if they are able to.

Indeed, being able to play a game via the cloud could depend on a number of external factors and whether they are all working in the way intended. As highlighted, servers can sometimes experience a number of faults or downtime, which could then become a frustration, especially if it is the only time an individual has time for a gaming session.

What is the verdict?

So, is cloud gaming the future? As we mentioned before, that can really depend on your perspective and whether you have the capability of enjoying what the technology has to offer. There is no denying that there are a number of benefits to it, although, it would be wise to recognize that there are still a number of drawbacks and limitations, too.
