If you are having problems with updating your Windows 7 machine, then you should download the monthly update rollups now provided by Microsoft.
These contain a large amount of updates to a particular date and are released each month. Once you have downloaded the update file and installed it, you should then only have a few minor updates to install and this should run a lot quicker.
At the time of the post being published, the latest is December 2016 Rollup but we will post when each monthly update is released.
